I just picked up a brand new Imac g5 ,1gb ram,250 HD,1.8ghz computer of ebay for 1300.00 USD. If I combine this with my digi 002 mixer, can I get a good quaility recording. On a scale of 1 to 10.(10 being the best homerecording you ever heard). Is this equipment sufficient?

I run a very similar system 20" 1.8ghz Imac G5 with a 002r. This set up will pretty much let you max out what pro tools le can do as far as track count and plug ins. I often go up to 32 tracks and have no problems using eq3 and bf plugs on almost all tracks, plus delay, verb, sansamp when needed. There will be times you'll get the occasional dropout but its only happened to me during tracking 3 times in 13 months. You've got yourself a decent setup.

it will probably do everything you'll ask of it, the only obvious upgrade from here is a faster hard drive.

I use an I-mac G5 (2ghz w/ 1.5 GB RAM), Digital Perfomer 4.52, and a firewire interface (original MOTU 828). I bypass the preamps and the converters in the 828 with a Great River Me1nv and a Lucid 9624. The performance of the I-mac is fine although I normally don't require more that 10-12 tracks. The processor load (as measured by DP) seldom goes about 25 percent and that's with several Waves Renn Max plugins. The processor only goes significantly higher when I record through effects with a low buffer setting (e.g., 64).

The I-mac is fairly quiet but you will notice some limited noise if you record with a LDC mic close to the monitor. It's clearly not as quiet as placing your computer outside your recording space. The older, first generation I-mac G5's had greater noise problems due to the number of fans keeping the chasis cool. I have read, however, that Apple redesigned the fan setup and it's no longer an issue. Since your machine is new it shouldn't be a problem.

i run mine with a FIREPOD and Mackie Tracktion and it gets my jobs one easy enough, all i need is to get where i am not hearing the fan noise i am thinking of a wireless mouse and keyboard and maybe moving it into another part of my room but if the Tranzport gets made up for trackiton then i will find the $200 and get one :) but all in all i ahve done some really nice recordings with mine.
