Almost any Mac Compatible USB or Firewire interface should work- check with the vender to determine if there are any issues with the Intel architecture. And yes iTunes will convert song files to mp3 ar wave. There are many other ways to do it also.

That's not true. Drivers cannot be run in emulation mode. Thus, unless the driver has been updated for Intel-based Macs, it won't work. For the time being, you MUST check with the manufacturer before buying something....

M-Audio has beta drivers for at least some of their gear (not sure about how much).

Presonus does NOT, though their FireWire interfaces use Apple's drivers, and thus the devices should work without any software from Presonus, but until they get their software written, you won't be able to switch between internal and external sync, and you won't be able to upgrade the firmware.

MOTU has drivers released for at least some of their gear (again, not sure how much).

I read that, but I may have read it differently than you intended. The way I read that was "most interfaces should work, check with the vendor to make sure there aren't any weird quirks", when the reality is (currently) more along the lines "a fair percentage of the interfaces out there work, check with the vendor to find out which ones".

Poor wording on my part- your point is well taken. :o
