How in the name of all that's holy do I listen to the track as it is recording...?

I'm trying to make the jump from a Korg D16 to computer recording and although I know there is a steep learning curve to all of this I cannot figure it out...

Thanks in advance...

Need more info. How is the Korg hooked up to your computer? How are you monitoring your audio?

I'm not using the Korg at all now...I'm going straight into my sound card (which by the way, is just a standard sound card that came with the system, I may buy a nicer one later but this is all I have to work with for now)

So....all I am doing at this point is going directly out of a guitar Pod into the microphone input of my sound card, I am getting a signal and it plays back just fine, I just cannot hear it as I am recording.

Thanks...

Double check your Windows audio settings and make sure your inputs are not being muted from being monitored.

Your soundcard may not be full duplex (which allows for monitoring the incoming audio signal.) On the Sound Forge record window, is the monitor box checked? (I'm assuming it's Sound Forge you're using.)

I have a soundcard that came with the machine...it's just your average run of the mill Compaq computer...i saw a fairly nice EMU soundcard at CompUSA the other day...it sounds like I need to go ahead and buy a better soundcard...I don't think the one that came with the system is going to do it... :(

Oh well...thanks for the replies...I appreciate the help.

What is your budget for your new soundcard?

As it was earlier stated, you need to make sure that the soundcard you currently are using is full duplex. Eventhough it is a factory Compaq soundcard, it should have full duplex capabilities.

You will eventually need to purchase a better soundcard, though.

So, whats your budget? I am sure that we can steer you in the correct direction.

settings>>control panel>>audio device

settings>>control panel>>audio device

This should allow you to see what the sound card settings are and change them if necessary, also make sure that in Soundforge you are recording to the proper device ie. sound mapper, or whatever your card is.
