Im selling my Marshall... What do you think?

The band that i was playing with is no longer a band, so I have decided to sell my Marshall TSL on Ebay and buy some equiptment that I would find more use for in a home recording environment. I posted some experiment sounds that I just recorded with the amp, miced... do you guys think im crazy for selling it or just go out and buy a good direct unit and spend the other $800 bucks on something.

hey Jeff,

keep the amp.. ..

You can always pick up processors, but it is usually a little harder to pick up a good amp.. and that amp sounds pretty sweeet to me.. Maybe it's the combination of having a good guitar and a great player like yourself, but I would keep that amp and record it..

Pods and the like are not that expensive anymore.. I sold amps and have lived to regret it.

I'd be micin' that beotch and using some Boss pedals..

Ya know ... I was really big on selling it until I actually put it up on Ebay. Then, things started to change...(looking eye to eye with the amp in my monitor) then I saw your post... which then led to one of Ebays fastest auctions.

I think my amp will love you for that.

mmmmmm, yea ..thats a tuff one. I had a really nice Trace Elliot Bass rig that i sold when i "settled down".....and i have to admit, I really regret it now. If anything, I wish i would have at least kept the pre-amp. But I understand the economics involved. I listened to the sound bites, and it sure sounds nice... Not considering myself a guitar player, do you think that you could find a nice combo ....used ......that could get you tones close to those that youre getting w/ the marshall? Maybe (if you could) you could get the best of both worlds,.....the combo plus whatever other recording toys you have in mind. Like i said, Im not a guitarist, so I'm not the stickler for guit. tones that im sure you are...... .......Im not helping am i...... g

Here's what I'd do...if ya can afford it. hang on to the amp...as appears you are doing...cause you might want a big ole amp down the line sometimes. unless you can get top dollar for it now, I'd say keep it. ya know..jam sessions, etc...another band...who knows?

But, I'd go get some cheapie amp/stompboxes...like the J-station for $150. Honestly, and brutally, I think you'd get some better sounds with the Pod and/or J-station than what you posted. Not saying the potential isn't there, but it's so easy to get a really decent sound, just by plugging in one of those things...IMO!!!(maybe no one elses!!). I am not familiar with the Marshall model you have, as I'm just familiar with the older stuff. But, they are limited in that you can only get that power sound...not much else...a good sound at that, but no Fender, no tweed...just good old crankin' Marshall.

so...that's my take...keep the amp, spend more money

Mix- I use a Marshall JCM 900. It's 100W but I can get a wide range of tones from it, including some very nice gentle cleans. I'm just waiting to move out of apartments so I can TURN THIS BABY UP!

But I also gotta agree with Sam that it's very hard to find an amp that seems to have been made for you. If you got it, covet it...

Im not the biggest fan of combos. The only ones I like the sound on is the older Fenders .. like blackface Vibroverbs or twins. Expensive Your gonna think this is funny, but I built (I know what your thinking- This guy is gonna build his next car) my Guitar cabinet with 4- 12" w/ velvet covering the chicks dig it 2- Greenbacks and 2- Vintage 30's sounds nice with a dandy head.

I played through one of those only 60w reasently for a couple of nights with my Fender and I just loved it. The three chanels rock. It sounded great. very creamy. 4x12 had something to do with it also but that is a nice amp and it's much harder to buy something later at least in my expirience.

Keep the Amp and by all means, buy a V-Amp 2 (My personal choice), POD, or J-Staion. I too, have sold or traded too many amps over the years and regretted it.
