I'm hoping someone might be able to give me some advice/suggestions. I've just completed a children's CD, and the CD is currently being duplicated (1,000 copies). This children's CD is just under one hour total play time, and is full of comedy, education, and some really good songs. The CD has character dialogue, with intermittent songs. So far in test playings to children, daycare's, friends, etc., I am getting overwhelming thumbs up-the kids absolutely love it-and in some cases the kids have learned the songs & dialogue word for word. I really feel as though this CD has potential mass market distribution possibilities. The thing is, I don't know where to begin to find distributors, publishing companies, agents, etc. If any of you reading this fit these catagories, or have suggestions on where I should go, please contact me.

I've recently discussed business strategies with an entertainment attorney. I've just sent applications to ASCAP, to form my own publishing company. Just becvause I am to call myself a publishing company doesn't mean I know what to do next-I don't, and I need help! My ultimate goal is to get this project into the hands of Disney, Nickelodeon, etc., etc. Obviously I'll not be able to just call up Disney executives, or send promo paks by mail; I will have to go through the proper chains. My attorney has stated that I will need and agent/manager which has these proper connections. This is where I'm hoping you might offer some advice? I have no idea where to begin looking for an agent, or distributing company, etc. The first thought that came to my mind is Randy Newmans' agent, since Randy has done sound tracks for 3 or 4 Disney movies. However I have no idea who Randy Newmans' agent is, nor would I know where to begin to look.

I know absolutely zero about the business side of the music industry. The only thing I can think is to approach the pros (like yourself), ask advice from the persons that have been there, and know the proper avenues to take.
Wish me luck.

Hey Keith,

Hope I can get you started.......First good thing setting up the publishing company...continue the process with ASCAP.....then get a DBA license within your city.......then open a checking account.....get business cards.....( you now have a publishing co)

ok this is where your starting point is..........You are now a music publisher - so in your case the first thing I would do is submit a letter of intent from your Pub Co to Dreamworks.......(Randy's Label).........as well as to Disneys record label....... If you do not here back call them directly...... YOU WILL NEED TO GET ON THEIR LIST OF PERSONS THAT ARE ABLE TO SUBMIT WORK..................................after your on the list you submit and wait..................................

I would also suggest that once the publishing company is set up, approach schools and educational establishments and try and strike a deal. This deal may be the basis for a distribution agreement.

Good luck!

Hi Keith:

Good luck with the project. It sounds like it may have a niche if properly marketed. If we can help you let us know. We are always looking for squeaky clean original material, be it gospel, country or something like this. If you want to send me a copy, I will listen to it. If it makes it past me, it will go to a nationally known producer and his wife who have production/distribution experience with over 30 gold and platinum singles and albums under their belt, for their opinion. Hey, you never know. Every project has its own correct way to market. Regards.
