i bought an at2035 mic to record on and a mic cable and an adapter so the mic cable would fit into my laptop but when i plug the mic in nothing shows up...its abrand new mic and cord and adapter and ive tried on 2 laptops they both wont detect the mic any reason why? do i need something else? i have recording software too that doesnt detect it

at2035 is a condensor mic to my knowlegde and needs phantom power. therefore using an xlr cable and converting it to plug into a laptop means its not getting any power from a pre amp. i assume this is what you are doing. get an interface for best results or a mixer and use outputs from the mixer to go to the laptop. basically what im saying is you need some sort or preamp to power the internals of the mic

What kind of computer are you using? If your do as one guy said and get an interface then that will(more than likely) come with preamps and phantom power so that you won't have to worry about buying a bunch of extras.

yea thats exactly what i was doing..okay thanks so i need a preamp any particular type i should buy for like phantom power?

Oh.. I see... 4-F and 5-F don't get along... Looks like we got a Silly Bee:rolleyes:

Even babies grow out of diapers and learn to shit elsewhere. When does potty training start? :D
