i'm new [again] and need equipment advice

quick background. i've been playing guitar since the late 60's. tons of gigging and some recording experience in what i call old timer studios.

i want to set up my own computer based home studio. mac based. i'd like to:

1. record my guitar and mic'd amp into the computer;
2. record bass into the computer;
3. record vocals into the computer;
4. record drums into the computer;
5. yada yada with keyboards.

question:

a. what interface do i need between the instruments and computer? [motu?]
b. do i need to pre-amp the mics?

i make a good living so i've got the cash for a good "starter" kit.

advice is appreciated. and please forgive what i know is a frequently asked question.

What's your expectation in getting out of the set up? radio/release ready? simple demo's? shits and giggles?

You can get basic song ideas down with a simple digital recorder

If you're looking at full band, multi tracking, out board effects, hands on mixing etc then the equipment requirements would be completely different

One persons basic setup is another's overcomplicated mess if goals and expectations are not the same
 
And on a less serious note, I agree with diggy. This looks pretty complete. Good for now, plenty of scope for your growth. But Bristol is also right. It could be overkill. You might be just as well served with just 8 tracks. It's dependent on what you want to do.

i would like a simple setup to begin, then graduate to a radio release.

i do some spots from time to time for an associate, and the band is clicking pretty well so we're gonna give it a go.

so,

1. simple stuff.
2. radio release.

i realize there are many variances. i can cut and paste as needed.

guys, let me state that i appreciate the indulgence. i'll check out all recommendations. i play mainly orange amps with my guitar and love the air-pushed sound, so i'm trying to capture that.

i have court this afternoon but will review when i can.
