Trumpspade

I'M BLESSED.......
I am going through a period of "I don't know what in the Hell to call it".......
Do you all ever get that "I don't feel like doing shit" attitude? (In regards to music)
I am on vacation for a week and a half. I was looking forward to it because I am at home, I got my equipment back up and running, I ain't working the crazy hours, but my motivation is GARBAGE......I got my lil studio, that I always wanted, down stairs in the basement, but I have not went down there in like two weeks. UNMOTIVATED
Do any of y'all get these slumps of being not interested for a couple of weeks? It will be good to hear that it is normal and I am not just experiencing a change of direction........Maybe that approaching 40 syndrome is kicking in!

I get moods like that all the time. When I dont fully feel like making music and I try, my creations usually turn out like shit. So when I'm feeling like that I just take a break for a while or throw on some music for an hour or so, and that will help me get back into the mood

I go through periods like that too. It's not the lack of interest of doing music, but what you have to remember is that making music isn't something that can be mundane routine shit. In order to advance, sometimes you need to step away from it for a while to let your creative side catch up. Usually when I get like that, when I start back making beats again, I wind up doing something new that I wasn't doing before that steps my game up and makes me think "Damn why didn't I think of doing that earlier." That little bit makes me go back at it again.

Here's a hint though if it starts bothering you. What you should do when you get into slumps is start trying to challenge your brain. The first slump I went through, I challenged myself to make 3 types of beats that I never made before (if I had them, I'd gladly share them with you). The first one was a prehistoric/jungle type beat. The second was my first Asian beat. The third was a patriotic themed beat. By the time I finished the challenge I put on myself I was hungry and putting out good beats like crazy.

Yo that's a good idea Fieva, I might try that too.....Even the most creative cats go through that. I remember reading this one article where Kanye was saying that he didn't know if he was going to make another album, because he felt pressured to come up with something, and nothing was coming to him. This was before Late Registration.......I have discovered the source of why this happens to me. It usually is a result of listening to too much sub par music. It literally drains my creativity. So I remedy this by first stepping away from music for a minute, and then listening to some hot ish, usually something old and from a different genre. Hot music inspires creation of hot music. Hope that helps.

Another thing I do when I slump really bad is go through all of my sounds and find one I would normally find weak as hell and then make it good.

That doesn't work then I'll listen to good music like Murdock said...hot music does bring hot music. But I hate to do music that sounds like someone else, even if the beat is influenced by someone else. I want beats that say "Fieva did that track....doesn't sound like anybody else....that's just Fie"

Im going through one currently.
sometimes i think i should just quit making music for good.
i havntnt made a beat in like a week. and havnt written in over a month.

its always the same though. one day youll just feel like making music.
so youll get up and go do it, and the slump will be broken. another one will always come though.

Man i think these "slumps" are what is needed to get some fresh ideas into your subconscious and take it to another level like Fieva mentioned. as producers if we don't take breaks you can't get that new inspiration. I take a slump break after ever "set" of beats i make. Like i may run off 10 beats and be empty so then I just schedule something else. then usually My hunger gets recreated and bam I am right back at it.

If you just make beats then your slumps are when your brain is telling you "ok what you do, you do it well, but let's get somethin new crackin' on those beats about to come out...gimme time to think on that"

If you write as well, sometimes your brain wants to go back and forth between writing and making beats so it improves everything as a whole. I can tell that within the last year, my lyrics have gotten better and so have my beats.

Slumps

It's funny that you should bring that up. I'm just getting out of a three week slump. it's normal, and let me tell you it feels dam good when I snap out of it because it's like I have all of this fresh creativity and it almost feels like i've been in hibernation depleting all of my negative energy that i've been building up. I'm used to my slumps now and i can feel when they are coming on so i take full advantage of them. I usually catch up on real life things that i've probably been putting off. I would spend extra time with my kids, watch television shows, read, clean the car, excercise, organize my files on my computer, listen to the new music that's out.....Man slumps are actually good in a sence, for me at least. You'll be ok PLAYER PLAYER.

My slumps
My slumps
My slumps my slumps my slumps

LOL I had to say that!

Jug writing deeper lyrics helps me get rid of negative energy...and gives me a chance to shoot off my mouth at some real talk. On the real, I didn't know you had kids though. You just struck me as the type to not have any yet. I'm in one right now only because the finals in school wore my energy flat...got some new sounds, should be workin' with those when I switch the studio room with the kid's bedroom. He needs a bigger room anyway and the smaller space might be easier to manage acoustically.

Hey Fieve I can't lie when I heard you had some new sounds I was like I dam that sounds like a winner right here...haven't had any for about a year now so I got me a few new sounds and been in the lab like crazy !!!!

I am starting to spend more time developing my stuff now instead of going for speed. But I like the sound I'm getting now !!! I finally got me a spot where everyone posts their beats so I should have some stuff up in a couple weeks.

Sittin on some goodness....just waiting for things to get right before I work with it and knock that out the park.

it must just have been perfect timing . . . cuz slump city is where i have been most recently -- i usually just leave it all alone, till the feelin comes back - it does take a few days at least - but i usually hit up the movies a whole hell of a lot and go buy some new hip hop cds when im in the slumpz

Good!
I don't feel like the "Lone Ranger".....I know people who eat, shit, and sleep music, all day everyday for the past couple of years. Sometimes the last thing I want to see is a mic or some keys. I guess we all go through it at some point. But yeah Jug, that is all I have been doing all week, chillin with the Fam and doing crosswords puzzles.....Maybe tonight I might take a trip down to the basement................I'll look at it like vacation from everything!
