ok so i have recorded about 6 or 7 bands since i have started. and when i do guitars i use the dynamic close and condenser a few feet back. my question is fasing. i dont know if its there. so either A im extreemly lucky at avoiding mic fasing when i place them. or B its there and im to stupid to tell the difference......im guessing its B

I was taught to use the rule of 3. If your mic is 1 inch away from the speaker cone, then your next should be 3 away. and the next = 9, so on.

Another way. duplicate the tracks, pan hard left and right, and listen.
I could be dumb though. Thats why I hang around HomeRec, and not ProRec

A lot of people may disagree, but I've never really liked condensers on electric guitar, always thought a nice dynamic or a ribbon did the trick really well. That, and a lower powered amp if you want more gain. My suggestion is to just use one mic in a sweet spot, I'm a caveman who operates under the rule of the less mics you can get away with the better, a lot comes down to mic choice, placement, and what's actually coming out of the amp.

Check phase by putting both tracks mono and listening. Might be even easier to hear in headphones. Invert the phase of one of the tracks. You should be able to hear if you have a problem that way.

Hey, is ProRec back?

I read the 'instructions' for an SM58 for the first time today, and it said never use more than one mic for a particular sound source - which I can only guess is to with phase problems; but I don't see why you can't just reverse one

In answer to your question though, if you can't hear a problem there probably isn't one. Solo both tracks and switch the phase on one of them (doesn't matter which), then listen to the difference with phase reversed/normal and see which you think sounds best.
