Hey All,
I've been wprking with Acid Pro (as well as Vegas and sound Forge0 for a while now and having a blast but i have a few serious problems;

a) I cant seem to get rid of background noise on the recorded tracks. I'm recording straight in to the mic input on my sound card using various mics. when I arm a track the level indicator seems to pick up a bunch of 'static' noise that I cant seem to get rid of. i orriginally thought it was bad power in the building but I've sisnce bought a power conditioner and it has not improved. I'm hoping to get some insight before i go out and spend more money. could this be the sound card? (mine is nto the greatest) does the absence of mic pre's cause this? i'm stumped...

b) playback & record - Because i'm limited to a sisngle track i have been recording click tracks via my drum machine and then playing them back through my cans while recording the drums, beds etc. the problem is that I cant seem to shut off the drums that I'm recording in my cans while I'm recording them. the result is that aI can barely make out a click track over my own drums ringing back through the cans. i've tried and tried to mute the drums that I'm recording with no luck....any tips on how i could do this? This is a problem when recording anything that cannot go DI.

You should never really be using the Mic In to record. Instead - try the Line In. (You will probably need to send the mic thru a Preamp of some kind in order to get a decent signal though). You can also try (as an additional step) opening the Volume Control in the taskbar, open the Recording section and mute anything you arent using. This isnt going to solve your main problem but it will help a smidgen. (e.g. usually there is a slight hiss that comes from my CD Player channel, etc.)

Tak

a) Your soundcard sucks. Scinx has some good recommendations that will help, but don't expect to be 100% satisfied.

b) Try turning your click track up. Also try experimenting with different click tones.

Sound Card Eh?

Hey SlackMaster,

You're probably right on the soundcard. Any recommendations on something that will provide a clean "no-nonsense" sound without the HISSSSSSSSSSS ?

Just look around. There are a million different options.

In the extreme budget range you have the soundblaster Live! and Audigy...neither of which are stellar but you won't have the noise.

Up from there is the m-Audio Audiophile 2496 at $150 and the Echo MIA at $199 and the m-Audio Delta44 at $199-230.
