I'm getting ready to pronounce this "DONE"

Mike, my only thought is to double that single line. Will do if I get some time later in the week or on the weekend. If it weren't already a cut & paste, I'd suggest that you take the first instance and copy it in time with the second and vice-versa, but they're identical.

I still think the mix is great the way it is.

you drums are synth right? i like the name the dachays...it sounds cool.

Wes - the drums are Roland V-Club drums. They are "played" like a classic drum set, but the sounds are samples. So when Fed mentioned "performance issues," the drums would fall in that category, as they were actually played.

ok ... "performance issues" sounded a little harsh ... :D
but since you ask ... I didn't feel the bgv vox were all there intonation wise ... but it might be just a style of this song... well no.. intonation is intonation... sometimes I get very sencitive to intonation ... I hate it ... because I can hardly tune my guitar... :D
also that shaker at 1:52 ... also right before shaker comes in something happens to the rithm... everyone just not tight there...

it's just a tad loose rithmicaly throu out ... I notice it usualy when listen to drums and rithm guitar together... when you "stand back" it's not that noticable ... but when you listen to just those two ... you will hear the groove beeing lost...

listen to the intro... see how rithm guitar does ... paaaaaa- paaaa - pa-pa-pa ... it's not very tight with the rithm and a little stiff... I think I even know why :)

I hope I'm making sence and not nit picking the song... it's a good recording and mix is nice ... and I'm sertantly not an expert here ... it's all just MHO...
cheers

Kinda late here, but this was a cool thing to hear. Nice change of pace for me.

All the suggestions I would give have been given... leadvox should come down a dB or 2, not because they don't sound good, but just don't seem to blend ideally.

Also, I agree with Mixmkr. It will be "done" about 6 months from now, when you hear it with fresh ears. Unless you're on a deadline.

Mostly I just wanted to say thanks for the tune.

I remember the original and I like this one better. The real horn really adds to it, especially at the end. This has a really nice, 70's kind of Glen Campbell sound to it -- imhop --

Very nice job! I think you are done for today ... Give it a year or so and you'll probably want to revisit it -- lol ---

I really like the sound you got on this! :)

(hey, I've finally learned how to use the smiley faces)

Just a small thing when you're doing remix number 4536892423 -

When the horns first come in I think they should be in the right side not the left. The left already has other "interest" points - shakers etc., while the right does not. Just personal taste.......

I love the acoustics and the placement of the horns in the centre at the end.

Good song!

I know I'm chiming in way late, but I'm FINALLY getting around to hearing what y'all are doing.

Since Mike was the first one to talk to me here I went to listen to his tune first. Seems like everyone's already covered the mix. I think it's great! Sounds smooth and soothing, nothing jumps out at me, very professional IMHO. Great job Mike, don't sweat it anymore (except what you already planned on doing) ;)

I think for the rest of the day I'll be singing "Ba da da da da da da" :D

The new horns have more power/enegy,the old sounds were wimpy "farfisa" sounding.
I think songs like this are what most of us are striving for.
My biggest complaint is now I can't get the damned melody out of my head now!;)

Once again, thanks to all for listening. I think I'm going to take the advice given by mix, sluice and boydrj and lay off this for a couple weeks. Most of your comments were pretty much on the money, and will give me some areas to concentrate on. Those of you who liked this mix give me some hope that I'm at least on the right track.

Sluice, I agree that the problem with the lead is it's not blending with the bg voices. I'm not totally sure it's a volume issue though. Could be.

barometer - I'm honored to have broken your cherry. :)

Fed - thanks for the specifics. I'll check those areas out.

qwerty - good call on the balance. I'll look into that as well.

JR - I'm sure Chuck will appreciate the horns comment. You didn't think they sounded a little midi'ish? :D

I think songs like this are what most of us are striving for.
Nice words, acid. Not at all true given some of the great stuff I have heard on this board, but thanks anyway.
