I'm tired of shitty mixes. I know this subject gets taken through the mud all the time, and I've read lots of posts covering different monitors, but I want some personal attention here before I go out and buy.

I record with 4 trk cassette and then mix into pc for editing/converting/burning. I've got a SB Live! with the LiveDrive. My questions are:

1. How can I connect monitors to my pc?
2. Which monitors?

Regarding which monitors...
My price limit is about $550. Options...
ACTIVE-------------------
Yamaha MSP-5's
Alesis M1's
PASSIVE-------------------
Yamaha NS10
Tannoy Reveals

Now, is the Alesis RA 150 okay to use?
I'm going to Mars and they don't carry Events, so lets stay away from those. I can't afford them anyway.

Come on now - I'll be in my car in less than 18 hours and need some help. Otherwise, I'll probably get the M1's:)

You can get an adapter that has a 1/8" plug for coming out the soundcard, and then splits to two 1/4" jacks for running cables to your monitors. Not the best, but works good enough for me. Just get good cables. I got my adapter and cables at Mars actually, so I know they carry all kinds of stuff like that. Since you have the LiveDrive (I just have the regular SBLive) I'm not sure if it has extra outs or not that might work better than my method.

I have Tannoy monitors, cause I thought they had the most even sound (flat) when I listened in the store. Listen to something you are familiar with through all the monitors in the same environment. I'll let someone that knows those other monitors you mentioned give better buying advice.

thanks Jon. I listened to those Tannoys a few months ago and wasn't that impressed compared to the M1's, but then again Im not sure what I should be listening for. Good to know I can pick up some connections while I'm there to connect to the pc!

Any other suggestions/comments?
Anyone?
Anyone?

Bueller?

I got the Yamaha MSP5's.

The Tannoys actually sounded very good this time, Jon, but the difference in price, size considerations, and quality left little doubt as to which were better for me. I got the cables you mentioned, too. Thanks a lot...
