lately i've been getting some random pops and crackles in my recordings and i'm trying to narrow down what it could be. just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. i'm pretty sure its not a mic or mic cable but i'm going to confirm that today. my board doesnt seem to be causing it because when i have the monitors or headphones on listening to stuff right off the board it doesnt do it. i'm thinking it has something to do with the signal somewhere after it leaves the master outs on the mixer and enters the computer. it hasnt done this ever before and i havent changed anything on my computer except for a new monitor. i'm gonna check the sound card today too and see if maybe it has been vibrated loose in the pci slot.

Try playing a commercial CD through your computer and see if you get the crackle. If it sounds clean, then you know it isn't your computer, soundcard or anything in the playback chain. If that's the case, then it's something (probably a cable connection) on the way from the sound source in to the hard drive.

the source of the crackle is found. somehow i managed to change my input from line to mic in my soundcard options. not sure what happened, i must have accidentally clicked it or something, but its all better now.
