Reel deep thoughts...
I thought for SURE I'd started a thread on my Tascam 238 I got back in 2014. I started a teaser thread "Ooooo what's in da box?", but I tried to repair the capstan servo board after that and took a whole bunch of pictures of the guts and everything, but can't find I ever started another thread. I was going to update it, but I can't find I ever started it. Hm. :drunk:

I have foggy memories of that thread...unless we're both under the same mass delusions here?! :D

Maybe try a different search parameter?

Cheers! :)

Well I searched for all threads started by me, and looked at all threads on or after that teaser thread which is in 6/2014. No dice.

I did see something on the 238, but I recall it was when you were selling stuff.

Don't feel bad...I'm still looking for one missing black sock since last year.
It went into the washing machine...but it never came out....

Good Lord...did I put my missing 238 thread in the washing machine???

One day coming out of the shower, all fresh and clean, ready for that "downy fresh" scent of new clothes, I lost my socks. Spent a half an hour looking for them. No worries, I had more clean socks, but where the hell did they go????

It was summertime and hot.
An hour or so later, I found them....in the freezer. :D
When I got my second popsicle.
Haha!

[[[MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE OF SUPREME COMMANDER - OCT. 19 2015]]]

Good afternoon Mr. Sweetbeats,

I understand that you're feeling a bit distressed about a thread on your ... TASCAM TWO THIRTY-EIGHT ... recorder that you feel is missing. I can assure you and your friends that no such thread ever existed. The most likely scenario is that you and your friends are not getting the suggested amount of sleep and exercise and/or your dietary intake does not conform to required standards. All of these violations of living code can result in numerous symptoms, including fatigue, depression, physical discomfort, and manufactured memories dealing with threads posted about analog recording devices.

If you and your friends would please adhere to the suggested dietary, exercise, and sleep requirements outlined in your sector's bylaws, I'm sure that you'll feel much better and become a happier, more productive member of society.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

[[[END MESSAGE - OCT. 19, 2015]]]

No.

Simply...

...no.

And I want to know what you did with my thread Mr. Commander.

Im pretty sure I remember a thread like that from you. I remember the whole capstan speed thing. Did you recap that 238, or at least the board for the motor? I swear you did do a thread along those lines.

Yeah that was it oh minion of the Supreme Commander. Detailed the guts of the 238 and the procedure of recapping the capstan servo board that is integral with the capstan motor. And I believe I detailed the failure of the procedure as well and the purchase of a new complete capstan motor assembly with servo board from Teac in Montebello, CA. That's what I remember anyway, and I have the pics to back up my memory. I do believe I've been hornswoggled.

Wrong thread. Sweetbeats was talkingbabout a 238 thread that HE started.
:D

Yeah, realized that too late but the principle that Google can often find forum threads still stands.

Dave.

I recall putting the Lucky Charms in the fridge, and of course you can guess where the milk went...

I've given up looking for the missing thread and have generated something new....

Funny stuff. :D
I saw the new thread.
Now is this one done?? I seem to remember another one you had finished and put up for sale.

No, not done...at the time I was pondering selling it and had the new motor and the unit sitting accessible...so I was talking about selling it and the idea was if I had interest I would take the 30 minutes and swap the motor out, but I never realllllly got to the point I was serious about selling.

I still have a fondness for those and a desire to get another one.

When they and the midi studio came out (688 was it?), I opted for the 238 and a mixer. I hated the 688 from the get go even though I hadn't used it. People who had it told me stories.

Way too complicated for my tastes. I just wanted to pop in a tape and get ti work.

Anyway, loved the machine, and did a lot of stuff on it that to this day I still consider pretty good.

Still would love to have one for the simplicity of just popping in an inexpensive tape and going to work.

Great writing tool.

:D
