I have a US-122 on a dell laptop and I'm trying to record a EMU- XL-7, when I connect everything, and record using the Cubase that comes with the US-122, I get a weird sounding interfernece, that sounds like the noises of the computer. The sound is not really distorted but a crakling hum is pretty loud in the background. Can some explain what this sound is and how do I get rid of it. This is something that is driving me nuts.

Thanx.

1) there is a bug in the usb driver of winXP. make sure you have XP service pack 1 (or better).

2) do you hear the crackling when you are direct monitoring the sound of the keyboard through the US-122? if so, your keyboard may be noisy. have you tried recording other sources and gotten the same noise? if so, are you using the same cable? if you are using different cables and different instrument (including microphone) and still hear the crackling it is the us-122. how high do you have the gain?

3) do you hear the crackling while you are recording, but not when monitoring? try #1 above. if that doesn't do the trick, either the us-122 or your laptop are causing the problem.

4) do you hear the crackling when you playback what you have recorded, but not when monitoring the direct signal, or during recording? then #1 is your problem.
