When i try to upload a midi backing track it says that i have no midi output.

Well, you better post questions with your PC spec / detailed info. most of it is what Cakewalk do you have?
Generaly, you can select MIDI port in Options-->MIDI Devices. You do have MIDI device installed, don't you?

For starters what program are you using? Sonar / Home Studio, which version? Also, what sort of sound card are you using? Sound Blaster?
