Im A Newbie And I Need Some Serious Help

Aight to who ever is reading this, help me out!!!

About a few months ago i got the idea of starting my own rap group. So i got some homeboys with me in this project, so im going to be raping but i alo want to be the producer and i want to buy everything that i need myself without the help of my homies cause i want to make the decisions myself. now im not saying im going to do what i want i will listen to them just that in the end ill be the one making shit happend, and if there is any problems in the end and we breake up they wont want they shit back and im stuck for a while not able to do a thing until i get some cash and buy the equipment again. well i just want to know what do i need to get my group started. All i have is a program called audio studio generation 6 and it has an unlimited number of tracks to record on. Also do i use that or do i still buy a multi track recorder wich one is better. and could you please specify what i need and what exactly it dose and what is it used for.

The multi track software you use is almost a secondary concideration. They all sound relatively good. As long as it's user friendly and supports one of the plug in formats (directX, VST, etc) and you're not concerned with transportability (taking your project to another studio for some reason that's using something like ProTools). Personally I use Cakewalk9 and Vegas for multitrack editing and SoundForge5 for two track.
The things you should be thinking about are quality microphones, quality mic preamplifiers and a quality way into the computer (the soundcard/interface to the computer, stable clocks, good A/D converters).
The rest is lots of practice and developing your recrding chops and your ears.

What is your technical level?

Have you produced music before?

You might need to do some more reading around these forums.

You are talking like the little teenage kids calling my studio saying...hey, we saved for two years and got $100. Can we record a 12 track demo in 2 hours?

No offence, but if I read your post I get the feeling you have absolutely no idea what your talking about. Try to read some of the posts on this forum for lets say a couple of months. Than reconsider your thoughts.

I think it's pretty obvious that the kid is a newbie...and wait what's this? Oh yes, this thread is in the newbie section. That's what I thought. Don't make fun of someone who doesn't know as much as you...that's the whole point of this bbs...for people to learn. Maybe you're not into rap, and neither am I, but I can respect the talent and what they're trying to do.

Yes, this is only my third post, but i've been reading posts on this bbs for longer than that.
