Check out "Saying You're Sorry"
I might change the title, not sure yet.

This is for an album being done at my uni. When people were sending in demos we were lacking marketable songs, this is an attempt at one. I'm singing in this but I'm gonna try to find some pretty boy freshman or sophomore kids for the real thing.

The mix is rough and the vocals aren't perfect.

Equipment: Delta 1010, SBLive Value, Roland JV-1010, ART Tube MP, POD, SM57, Fender Telecaster

How is it in terms of song/arrangement? Any other comments are welcome as well.

Hey, I can't reach that link. "Unspecified Error" returned from their server. It's Sunday, about noon CST.

I just tried it and it works for me. Maybe the server was having some problems or something. Sorry!

It might be these cans,

but its sounding real good over here.

I like the cleanness of the intro and the mix in general. THe effects that you have on there are well placed

I mainly listen to the vocals, and this one sounds very good.

I can't find anything that I would change.

THe song is nice too

Are you still recording in 16 bits?

keep it up

nice song!

how do you do the effect on the cool intro chorus?

maybe the ending can be touch up a bit... :)

Is it hard to get audio stuffs in Bangkok?

I pretty much have the same setup as yours: SB live!, JV1010, Apex condensor mic, Behringer 602A, Zoom GFX707, Yamaha Pacifica, MSP5 monitors.
maybe I'll have to get a good soundcard and preamp to be at par with you. :)

Hey guys,

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, I'm still at 16-bit. Bummer. Once I get my hands on Soundforge 5.0 I'll make the switch. But until then.... I guess I'll just have to settle for 16.

The intro has a short delay -> a flange/phaser effect done with Waves MetaFlanger -> longer delay. It's a 4 part harmony (part 4 is same as part 1 but an octave higher, I did this by pitch shifting) Each part is sung 4 times. Spread out with panning.

Leeking: what does the ending need? Do you mean the performance? I think it would sound much cooler with different voices instead of only my voice singing all the different parts (this goes for the whole song) I will redo this in the future when I find other singers.

Bangkok is not a good place to buy audio gear. Selection is not that great and it's expensive. One of the worst things though is that the kind of service you get in music stores here is really bad. There is an area in china town where alot of audio gear is sold but the ppl down there are very rude, and their shops are not setup so that you can easily audition gear. All my audio gear except for my POD and my guitar I've purchased in the states and have had ppl bring it over for me. It's nice to have international friends :D

Leeking, I strongly suggest a soundcard upgrade. The difference between the SBLive and the Delta 1010 is astounding. If you do a search there is a thread I wrote about it. Slackmaster also wrote something when he upgraded from sblive to one of the smaller deltas. It is definately worth the extra cash. I still use the sblive for soundfonts though, but definately NOT for audio.

mrlipp,

You had me fooled. I thought it was 24 bits.

What program do you use as a mulit tracker. Did the delta come with either vegas or logic? both can record at 24 bits.

One other thing. Do you have spdif out on the sblive. If you do, you could bypass 2 conversions and just record the soundfonts digitally. I synced my delta 1010 to a friend's sblive via spdif and it was beautiful

The ending is pretty fine.... maybe can be a little more harmonised, maybe different voices will do the trick or some chorus here and there. still a very nice song, maybe you should sing it in Thai! :D

Hmmm, should pretty much like Malaysia. :)

yeah, I know what you mean, I can definately hear the different comparing your songs to mine. I think a good convertor is the key. I am looking into getting those Hoontech cards from Korea....

BTW, you vocal sounds great.... :) are you using the Delta's preamp? You have the type of voice that the Chinese would describe as "eat mic"... :) go figure...
