Hi everyone!

I recorded a cover of the FRIENDS' theme song yesterday and I seem to be having a problem with the microphone. Whenever I switch to using my SM7B for recording the vocals, I notice the sound has a lot fewer higher frequencies than the SM58. Would you guys know how to control this issue? The link to the recording is pasted below

sounds pretty decent! did you record live and mic everything at once or multitrack?

Pretty muddy. Lacking some top and air. Whole mix sounding muddy. See if you can breath some life into it and get some high end.

This.

The recording sounds very entry level. Muddy as heck, really distant and muffled guitar and bass.
The hat on the right side during the chorus kind of fades in loudly and is distracting in its current placement.

For the guitar: it sounds like you recorded it in a "wet" room or had the microphone too far away from the amplifier. It's an SM58, just stick it up to the grill but watch out for proximity effects. I think that the 58s are hyper or supercardiods.

Props on choosing a good song.

Something is definitely screwed up on the vocals if you were using an SM7B, it's like a bad preamp effect.

yip sounds like the mic was next door! .. track has great energy though :)

I'm a fan of lo-fi, but this still sounds messed up. Almost like phase issues or something on that opening guitar. I also think lo-fi sounds best on tape and done with sincerity, and you're not going to get either doing a Friend's cover on digital medium.

Good energy to the mix. You captured the spirit of the original well.

The guitar riff is very muffled. So is the main rhythm guitar. There is a bit of mud in them too.

The cymbals are decent during the verse, and then they come blaring out in the chorus.

You could add the answer-back vocal in the chorus. The harmony vocal is good tho. Isn't there a full length version of the song? Like a couple of verses and a bridge?

The vocal has a very distant sound to it. Everything is missing high end energy.
