Hi.

I have a band. I have a computer (Mac OSX.) We have instruments (guitar, bass and drums.) We have mics & amps. Could you guys tell me, or refer me to somewhere that can, how to go about recording & mixing on my machine. I have looked over the forum and rather than read the whole thing, I decided to cut to the chase and plead ignorance. Budget is limited, lets start with the basics.

Thank you all kindly,
Sinner

have a mixer?

have a chord that can plug from your mixer to your computer?

does the computer have a line in?

plug said mics into mixer, out the mixer to computer. cheap if you have a mixer.

and you need to find a program that will record on mac. i'm a pc person and have no idea what programs there are for mac. (other than protools)

have a mixer with 1/4" out. computer has a 1/8" line in. is it just a matter of an adapter? I have recording software. can it be this easy?

You can get a 1/8 stereo plug to two 1/4" mono plugs, which will allow you to record two tracks at once.

And yep, it's that easy.

But you'll more than likely need to get a soundcard designed for recording audio, depends on what you're trying to do.

Figure out what you are trying to accomplish, a budget, then post what kind of mixer and soundcard you have.
