Don't let the title scare you...it's just a cool song. My daughter and I recorded it yesterday morning. It's not our tune, but we tried to record it in a little different way.

I should warn you that I recorded the slide solo with a AA battery b/c I tend to use whatever's handy, lol.

And yeah, it was recorded through an external Soundblaster card, LMAO. If you haven't been scared off yet, then the song is here:

thanks.

wow 'skillz growin exponentially.... all on the mark 'n shinin' big. The crunch el sounds a bit strong in a couple of spots to me.

HI TOKI!!!

Yeah, I think I know what you're talking about...especially at the end of the choruses...kinda' covers her up.

I'm waiting for real drum tracks, so I'll try to clean that up in the next mix.

Thanks for listening....oldtimer, lol.

@ chrisharris:

Well, you use xml, I can't download cause my browser does not support this kind of script language.

It's you fault......... if you don't learn.

But that's a matter of taste as well. Simplum est ratio!!!!!!! (just my advise)

I do? I don't even know what that is, lol. It's just a link to an mp3 that's hosted on our ftp. I'm not sure what to say here other than "thanks for trying," lol.

Timbo - I really have no excuse for using that card, lol. Thanks for listening.

I am sorry, chrisharris, you don't . I reffered to another thread.

I am sorried, I am very drunk.----------- :( :(  :o ;) :D

I'm listening to your mp3.

What can I say? I wish I could mix like you do......

Nice country / rock - tunes. Very nice.

Wow...that's really good! I didn't even mind the drum machine, except for the sound of the snare. I prefer a bit tighter snare, but it wasn't too distracting. I thought the lead vocals were great! I didn't hear what a previous poster said about the guitar crunch...it sounded good to me.

What do you think it would sound like if you faded in a bit of reverb (or more reverb) on the solitary vocal at the end? Just a thought!

At the very end there is a harmony on the word "Child"

It sort of just cuts out, and distracts.

Id either make that whole outro a harmony section or just bag it when it gets the word child.

Also the snare is awful, but i know its fake so who cares.

Otherwise a wonderful job Chris!

Man!
Can that girl sing or can that girl sing? Pretty impressive job on the vox! :)

And the guitar playing is just super. :) I like the country/rock feel of the song.

Overall I like the song. Mix sounds good to me. I can't tell anything wrong with the mix.

Not to knock anyone but country music has always had less focus on the drums from what I can tell after listening to all those Shania Twain and Gretchen Wilson songs. Well I listen to a good bit of country music (pop country that is) and I think the drums sound just a-ok to me. :)

this song proves that having great equipment can only do so much. congrats bro. that sounds great. please, please, please let us hear it with real drums when it's done.

and your daughter sounds great and i went to your site. she is 15? what a voice man, never let her forget that she can outsing people twice her age. keep doing what you're doing.

Great song. Great recording. Not that I know that much about all this stuff yet. But I do have ears; and I know what I like.

I remember downloading a song "Lucky" by you and Jaimee about a year ago when I first started listening in here. That was another great listen. You guys record a hell of a lot of stuff. I'll have to sit down and listen to it all one day.

Thanks for the music

That chick has better pipes than anyone I've heard here, I think. Can you post the lyrics? Awesome job.

Thanks a lot for listening. I sent the tune to our virtual internet drummer (lol) yesterday, and he's done. All he has to do is upload the tracks for me and I should be able to post a final version tonight hopefully.

Andyhix - much appreciate the comment. I really probably shouldn't post the lyrics since it's not ours. We don't do a ton of covers, but I hadn't recorded anything with her in months, so I just needed to record SOMETHING. The original artist is Mindy Smith, and if you google her name with "come to jesus," you should get the lyrics.

Aspiring - Man, thanks. That's pretty cool that you remember "Lucky." That tune actually got picked up by XM Radio, and Jaimee got a contract offer from Sony as a result of that. It's been a fun ride.

bigbubba - I appreciate the listen. I've been lucky enough to have some pretty talented folks do the internet collaboration thing with us in the past, and I think when this thing has real drums, it'll help a lot. I basically just did a cheesy loop with a few cymbal crashes thrown in b/c I knew real drums are on the way.

xfinster - spot on as usual, lol. Yeah, the snare sucks...it came with the kick, LOL. Fortunately, both are going to be replaced soon. You're right about the end, too...I'll fix it. Thanks a lot for th ears...yours are good.

grweldon - much thanks for the listen. The drums'll get better. I think you're right about the end too...I'm probably just going to cut the very last (repeating) line out entirely.

Again, thanks everybody. I really appreciate the ears and the thoughts, and most of them will hopefully be addressed in the next mix.

Dude.....she has one killer voice. Makes this a very cool tune. Tons of emotion, and tons of sound. Not thin at all. Very cool tune overall, and the slide playing was great. Very well done. How did you record her voice? How close to the mic was she? It's very clear, and no plosives, or any bad sounds. Very well done.

Just proves its skill, not gear! Good battery work! :D
Good song.

Jaimee's voice aside (which is hard to "put aside") "Lucky" is just one of those "it" tunes, Chris. If Jaimee didn't have the stuff herself to perform it, it would stand on her own w/o her.

...which makes her a strong triple threat: songwriter/singer/performer.

Sony knows its business.

I hope it works out for her. Be careful.

Best,

Kev
