What microphones would you buy? Personally I'm a HUGE fan of BLUE Microphones, I love the color they bring to the sound, and their one of a kind looks are also a nice bonus.

Well if you had all the money, why bother recording anything? Or why settle on only ONE mic. Pick a brand, buy the company. Or at least one of everything they had to offer. As far as mics, it depends on what you were recording. And you want some variety in there, if only to avoid dying of boredom. Most people don't really need an SUV, but they use one anyway. And should that one day happen where the road is washed out and their lives depends on the functionality that an SUV offers, they're ready.

Perhaps the better question is what would you buy FIRST. For me...

Senn. MKH 8040 (x2)
Senn. MKH 8020 (x2)
AT4050
KSM44a
EV RE-20
EV RE-27
SM7b
AT4022 (x2)

Roughly in that order. Maybe a u47 and u87 just to name drop. But I'm not that pretentious (yet).

Nothing against Latvia. But until they start having hit latvian bands like other countries with ABBA, Roxette, Nightwish, ... Should anyone really take an interest? Sure they are good mics for a reasonable price. But without some sort of history of success, it's a hard resale. What did Sinatra use, Johnny Cash??? Probably not a blue. If those artists were still around, maybe. But we'll never know.

That's some of the stupidest shit ever posted on the internets.

I just don't see how a company could excel past all others if they have no globally praised sources with which to test their gear on in their own country. Kind of like Olympic shooters for countries who've banned firearms. Or gold medal bob sledders from Jamaica. I'm not saying that it's not possible. But is it likely?

As I continue to use mics by a company that only makes one mic model (but they're local). And as I ponder a blue spark as my first NEW (> $100) mic purchase. While trying to think of 5 #1 hits in the past five years recorded (if only in part) by a blue mic.

Blue is cool though huh Geoffry? Especially the bottle when you see one up close.

What a dumbass.

Hint: Sterling mics aren't made out of sterling silver!

2nd hint: The BLUE Yeti isn't made from a mythical Tibetan mountain creature!

Final hint: A Behringer anything doesn't sound like a U87 or a Neve or a Fairchild.

Damn you have shattered all of my dreams c7sus. :(

I'd buy all the microphone companies and stop them producing any more... there are enough out there already and too many getting into the hands of undesirables...

You'd have to apply to me to own one... :laughings:

Armistice ..... can I please have a TLM 49 and a TLM 47.

If I had that much money, my studio would be staffed by the finest engineers - and I'd let them make mic decisions for me (naturally, this would be after they had worked with the finest studio designers to create a room that would sound great regardless of what mics were used)

Of course you mean Playboy bunny engineers right X ? ;)

I was always worried that the head could easily get knocked off.

Well I own a Kiwi and certain people have knocked it over a couple times, and once it did actually land on it's head, but it still works like it just came out of the box.

The spark isn't that great from what I've heard. I've heard excellent things about the BlueBird though, and for about $100 more, that might be your best bet.

Personally for mics around $150-$200, I like the AT2035, but that might be just me.
