My make-shift teenage recording (computer room) studio is on a tight budget. In the $100 price range, would you choose the SM57, Studio Project B1, or MXL v67G as the first med-quality mic to add to your collection?

The gear I'm getting by with is SM58 and Audio Technica U857Q (which i borrowed from my church:p) with a Presonus firestudio mobile. Vocal, Acoustic gtar, and micing amps for the most part.

This is just from what i've trolled the forums to find out... B1 is great versatile mic but bad for vocals, v67 is better for vocals, and of course sm57 can be used for anything.

I would say the B1. The SM58 will work fine for micing an amp. The SM57 doesn't sound too great on acoustic guitars. It's not warm enough. The same goes for the vocals. You can get by with it, but a condensor is good to have.

I would actually get a CAD M179, it is in your budget and it is great on vocals and guitar. This mic is better than many $300 ones and is very versatile. It is more than neutral and boring, it has character.

You all ready have a 58 which can do just about anything a 57 can do.
Sooooo.......it's between the B1 and the V67g. IMHO I would get the MXL V67g it's a microphone that I own and it gets a lot of use as I'm sure you would as well.
