DogRox - Extended dry spells are frightening to most folks that take songwriting serious, but like Roker1 says, eventally they end.
I used to think that the volume and quality of songs I wrote was related to whether or not I was in love or out of love or happy or unhappy, but I've disproved that thought repeatedly.

I have no explanation for it, but it does seem to go in cycles and I've had some last as long as 12-15 months, then suddenly I was writing 2 or 3 songs a day. After 30+ years of such hot and dry spells I've learned to live with it.

Hey Pete.. yeah i know what you mean.. but as far as writing songs about being in love or not..hehe well i dont worry about that cause i never fall into that catagory!..mainly i dont have a social life hhehe! :D

but i think that the lack of creativity.. is leading to a lack of motivation too!.. cause it is like with this one project that me and my buddy from michigan is working on.. it is like he was lacking motivation.. and that is kinda making me feel the same way now! And after i told him that lack of motivation is only a lack of interest.. cause if you had interest you would find a way to motivate yoyurself.. well i can say i was wrong about that cause now i feel the same way! :(

Back before the IT Nazis took over the PC's at my company, I loaded Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and did all kinds of midi programming with the mouse - drums, keys, strings, etc. They don't care if we work with headphones on, so I could hear what I was doing in anonymity and save the midi file to a flopppy.
Now we can't load any software without admin priviledge, so I can only do lyrics in Word and email it home.

Also, if it's a rhythmic hook I come up with, I write it out. It takes forever for me but I've done it, and if I spend enough time figuring out the intervals, I can assign notes to it.
