If i tuned a 7 string to DEADGBE would the chords sound more fuller? or like crap?

Im happy with drop D tuning but i thought if I bought a 7 string and kept it at dropped D but put the 2nd top string as E so its in standard tuning with an extra D at the top, it would sound more fuller, what are your thoughts on this?

No! That E has no place in the power chord you're trying to make! If you want to know what it'll sound like, play a chord consisting of EAD (e.g. your bottom (bottom=low) three strings). That's about what it'll sound like, with a little extra D thrown in :)

is there any tunings were i can get a seven string but still keep it to D tuning, wes borland is know for adding to high e strings (thinist strings)

anything that would give me another string to play with or make the guitar sound more fuller

naw i think D is the perfect tuning, B would be to low, but thanx for the comment

Well, if you want the 7th string to be a D, then you'll have to tune your E string to something in the chord you're wanting to play. Try F# (major) or F (minor).

You might also try something like ADADGBE, which would still technially make D power chords, but just have a big fat low A on the bottom. Hell, you could go really crazy with something like ADADAAD. Kim Thyail used a lot of really strange tunings that amounted to little more than huge power chords.

ddaddad, that might sound nice for a few minutes of strumming, but its not worth buying a 7 string for

If ya like the way it sounds and like the way it plays, do it. There is no right and wrong.

The D could be useful for playing songs based on a dropped D while still playing songs based on standard tuning. I.e., being able to play Van Halen's drop D "Unchained" along with nornal stuff.

However, you (obviously) will not be able to play any power chords below D. Also, you'll have to figure out different fingerings when using the low D string. For example, it will be a little different playing a D power chord and it will be a major pain playing a D# power chord without adding the 3rd on the E string and playing the 5th on the A.

if you want some big full soundin cords go buy a baritone ,for get that 7 string crap that phase faded out real quick if your a real musician /guitar player you can do any thing with 6 strings that you can do with 7
