Actually, just half a bingo.

The damage would be done no matter how it's recorded. If you clipped the signal, it's clipped. You can't unclip it.

(Well, with some nifty digital technology it might be possible to get some of the distortion away if it's just lightly clipped. But I don't know of any software that does that).
