Honest,i tried to find an existing post about this.

Background:
Running a DM4800 with IF-FW/DM MKII card to a windows PC XP. All had been working really well (for a couple of years) until the other day when the fan on the PC Video card died. No biggy. Suddenly PC won't see Hard drives. Again, drives are ok, so decided to rebuild.

Have new comp coming wityh upgraded specs but because the shop delayed it and I had work coming, I had the shop fix the old one as backup - required them to put in new drives, power supply, video card and install operating system. Installed Windows XP SP3.

With DM4800 switched off and NOT plugged into PC, downloaded and installed drivers from website for MKII card. Installed as per instructions.

Shut down PC, plugged in USB and firewire cables, switched on desk. Switched on PC ... PC didn't even try and do plug n play, and I was given no option to update MKII firmware.

Checked settings on my Slot 1 MKII card, "1394 Driver Offline" which the manual tells me means that there is an incompatible driver. Firmware version on MKII is 1.02 ... have since tried upgrading firmware to 1.21, 1.20 and anything in between with no success.

PC just doesnt want to see it.

I remember from the old Tascam Users Forum something about the cards sometimes shorting ? But I don't remember what the behaviour was ...

Helpppppppppppppppppppppp !!!!

Hmmm, I had a MKI card do this after a firmware upgrade unfortunately the MKI didnt have the ability to reset the firmware if it went wrong, the MKII card has a jumper to reset the firmware give that a go if you haven't tried it yet.
I had to send mine back to Teac UK to re flashed but when it was returned it had the same issue as yours, I never got to the bottom of it, bought a MOTU PCI-e and 2x 2408's I've since sold the DM24 and the card now using the TM-D8000 and the motu's but give the reset a go, I don't know about the shorting issue, what I do remember is particularily the MKI was prone to blowing the Firewire chip but I thought the MKII was a bit more robust
