Jazz (straight ahead or Bebop) - unfortunately, there is not much money in that. 2nd choice would be Jazz fusion and 3rd would be Jazz/Funk.

Metal, it is by FAR the most diverse top genre, you have everything from Symphonic Power to Grindcore to Gothic Metal, so many different moods from completely mellow to completely extreme. You could never get tired of playing it.

I applaud your vote, but I wouldn't say that metal is more diverse than jazz or classical, and I've played them all. Too many variables to make a statement like that. And then you have to decide where to draw the line....is Apocalyptica metal or classical music? What about John Zorn..where does he fit in?

bing

Classical. I don't necessarily think of that as my favorite type, but the diversity is there and I need the practice.

jazz would deffinetly be it, because jazz is change. If you let it stagnate(nothing against purist) then it fails to be jazz anymore.
Without the constant shift of the style i would have to go with something else. I'm glad i dont have to.

definantly rock/prog rock... bingbing metioned zorn, i'm pretty sure he has something to do with mr.bungle.. so yeah sometimes genres are indefinable because they cover so many styles....

yeah... anyhow for me its somewhere between jazz, rock and metal.... so i put down rock.... i like balls in drums and for my liking, a lot of metal drumming has too many unescesary intricacies, same goes with some jazz....

rock is good.metal is rock therefore metal isgood metal is classic therefore classical is good classical is technique ,technique is jazz therefore jazz is good jazz is fusion fusion is style style is fasion ska is in fasion so AW STUFF IT WHO GIVES A SHIT? SO LONG AS IM PLAYING LOUD ENOUGH TO DROWN OUT THE WIFES NAGGING I'M HAPPY

Jazz

Jazz, If I could only do one thing then Jazz 60's Coltrane, or Miles with Tony Williams or cool modern big band stuff. With Jazz you can generally find something cool to play at any given moment without irritating the meat head of a guitarist .... Also,l If you play jazz you probably have a real bassist ....

I appreciate all the above mentioned forms of music as they all have their place, but for me personally I like powerful music. I don't dance, so I don't really care if it has a certain groove, although groove definitely helps. Metal is the most powerful music I can think of sonically, so thats pretty much what I prefer. But I also like music with emotion, like some instrumental electronic music and some mellow SRV every once in a while. But some music doesn't stir me at all, and thats pretty much what I wont listen to. Modern country is an example of this. Sure, sometimes you can relate to the lyrics, but theres nothing there musically (although there is quite a bit of musicianship in some songs). Pop also seems to have little to no depth to me, so I don't care for it much either.

jazz.....played everything else....just didn't get as much out of it

Progressive rock/metal (that way you get a piece of everything and then some!). :D
