Hi, I am using Cool Edit Pro 2.0 and Windows XP.
I am doing so recording of myself playing the acoustic guitar to track my progress on learning the guitar.
I am using those headset microphone to do the recording and there is always alot of hisses. What would be the ideal settings both in Volume Control and in Cool Edit to minimise hissing?
Thanks you.

Alex, if you're getting a lot of hiss, it isn't a setting in Cool Edit that's the problem - it's your mic. What kind of mic are you using? Also, what soundcard are you using?

Finally, you from Singapore or Malaysia?

Yup, I am from Singapore. And the mic I am using is only those headset mic that people use when they are playing online/LAN games. The sound card I had came together with my laptop: Yamaha AC-XG WDM Audio.

Okay, it's that combination of cheap mic and computer soundcard that's giving you the hiss, I think.

So, you have two choices (I'd take the first one LOL):

1 Buy a decent mic and a decent soundcard. Spend some time in the mic forum and computer and soundcard forums here.

2 Keep the crappy mic and soundcard and use Cool Edit's Noise Reduction feature on everything you record.
