I have several years of home recording experience, but no DAW experience, as life was a little to complicated for recording over the last three or four years. I was at a friend's house and he had a little setup and it completely put the itch in me to have one too.

I have a dual 500mHz G4 with 1024 RAM (I think I can put another 512 in there) running OSX, Virtual PC 6.1, Win 98x, 2000 & XP, Ultra SCSI, blah blah blah. I've noticed that Digi 002 is going for $999.00 and I like that idea, but of course I hear a lot about the logic of using Logic with Mac OS's, while yet another point is that I'm going to be doing projects with some friends who use Cubase, although they use PC's. I should add that in the next 12 months or so I plan on getting a G5, though I'm not sure which configuration yet.

When I had an ADAT, and previously an Otari open reel 8 track, I made really nice, clean recordings of drums, guitar, bass, vocal stuff, mainly because I can be really obsessive and because I just like to hear well recorded instruments played well. Fancy editing isn't important. Sound quality is. Also, I would like to sequence some real-drum-kit-sounding drums in order to demo songs when a real drum track isn't available.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd really apreciate it. If at first I can just multi-track one track at a time, that'd be enough if the sound quality is nice. I like to demo with just a vocal and a couple of guitars. I can add other features later, like sequencing, however if there's a certain direction I should go since I'm going to want to sequence, that's important too.

I do love the sound of analog recording above all else. I think I used to know a lot about home recording in the days before home computers (had my first home studio at 16 in 1982) but I feel so lost now! I really enjoy reading this BBS and sometimes I stay up way too late doing so, even though some of it's over my head.

Thanks in advance for the help!
