Taking the slow road
I'd like t take the 16 track files and mix on pc so i can use plug-ins, effects, and see things like audio spectrum, eq, and be a little more experimental w/ my mixes.

then i'd like to try re-mixes of same stuff.

so i guess i can assume that would mean i don't need an audio interface (unless i want pt, i guess?), i can use my pc soundcard, and i have a lot of software options.

even tho i have a quiet case, it's just not quiet enuf, i have the antec sonata II, door already busted off anyway, it's not that much better.

I use a Korg D1600MKII for tracking, but I mix everything on the computer using Sonar. It works fine, but it is tedious getting things from the Korg to the computer. I use the Korg USB interface to make the transfers. I have also made the transfers using CD-R. Either way is about same amount of effort. Once you get used to it it's not too bad.

The nice thing about mixing on the computer (besides having plugs and such as you mentioned) is that edititng is so much easier (zooming, dragging with mouse etc.)

I dont think you would need an audio interface to start (as long as you don't want to use external effects and such)

If you have some software give it a try

You do need a decent soundcard so you can HEAR what's really going on with the mix. This is true for any recording set up, analog or digital. However noisy your computer is won't matter as long as you're not "tracking" near it with mics.
