Hi folks

Our latest work in progress is called "Don't Tell Me" and can be found here

I'd love some comments suggestions before I go any further.
The drums are just a midi thing for tracking purposes and will be replaced. And the bass is a scratch track so there is something there until we can get our bass player into the studio,

Thanks

Mark

As usual you come with very strong melodies and good harmonies.

Not my style of music but I can recognize a good song when I hear one.

Overall: B+

Not my cup of tea, but nice song. I like the midi snare sound. Vocals sound pretty clean.

Mostly just echoing what others have said. Some good harmony lines in there. I liked that.

I thought the rhythm guit was a little abrasive. Just a little. It could also use a little "body". Minor issues.

Not my style either - lyrically it didn't do much for me.

Ooo - liked the answer-backs at 3:15.

Cool.

If your going for a radio friendly sound, you nailed it. (that's not an insult, I wouldn't change the station on it :) )

You said the bass is temp, but it's pumping a little, you might try a compressor (multi-band even better) on it for now. rolling off below 40-60 hz a "very little bit" may fix it also, seemed like it was deep bass pumping, it got a little irritating on my system.

I agree about the guitar needing something, but I don't know what.

Overall a good clean mix, the levels sounded really good to me. even though the drums are midi, they sound good. a little tweaking on the fills wouldn't hurt. Vocals sound good also.

No need to really change anything, just needs minor tweaking. good solid song with a catchy sound!

on second listen, that ride (starting at chorus 1:30 and 2:30) is a little loud in the mix, and could use some velocity adjustments. and the lower "before I go" on the right after 3:15 is also a little loud, still just knit picking though, not major. maybe it's the panning, the mix seems to lean to the right during those parts.

That's about all I can comment on.

Recording is pretty clean and well balanced. Maybe a little more punch on the guitar. Vocals work very well together, with nice back and forth toward the end, but I wish you'd sing with less vibrato. Cliche'-ridden lyrics are a little distracting.

Thanks heaps for listening guys.
All comments will be taken into account as we progress. Some of the suggestion I've actually already taken care of since in my tweaking (fiddling ;) )
Brenda's vibrato, well, at 39 I don't think she's going to change ;) so we might just have to live with that. It is something that annoys me at times, but then in other tracks I don't notice it.

The reason I'm replacing the bass is because the player we have access to is John Rees (ex Men At Work), so who wouldn't? :D Just got to get him there to do it. Got about 10 tracks for him to do so it should be fun when it happens.

Thanks again

Mark

Anyone else who wants to listen please do. More comments welcomed.
