+1 for surprised when the vocals came in. Not bad, just a different direction than I thought
The kick is killing everything else. Busy kicks need attack, not the super low-end stuff. For the heavy double bass stuff, rely on the bass guitar for low end and use the kick how attack...3-6k or so.
Also, the entire mix gets unexpectedly loud towards the end. Kind of odd.
And, as I have harped on a million bands in the studio I will now harp on you...tune, tune, tune. No excuses for out of tune guitars/bass on a recording. If you need to intonate, then intonate. If you need to punch in chord by chord, then do it. For me, nothing kills a recording faster than out of tune stuff. Of course, I am an anal asshead, so take that with a grain of salt.
That bridge gets kind of crazy with the timing as well. Kind of hard to sing along with those gang vocals as the timing is pretty shaky there.
I'd say it has a lot of potential, it's a cool song, but it still needs some love. The small stuff matters and adds up over time
Any suggestions welcome. This is a mix in progress.
