Hi,

I'm working on a solo album and as a home recording beginner i listen a lot to some records i really like, to analyse and learn from it.

I've been listening a lot to the last IceAge record: Plowing Into the Field of Love.
It has loud warm sounding vocals, sharp electric guitars, punk style drums, clean bass, acoustic guitars, piano and some trumpets or so.
I love the way it sounds and how it is mixed.

Does anybody have some tips about gear, recording and mixing techniques to achieve something like this:

Looking for all around advice, go to the forums where you feel you need help, and start by reading the sticky threads.
AFA the specific sound, what I listened to has a very retro sound, but with clean vocal, so avoid tube on the voice, but hit up your tube comp plugs for a lot of other things.
