I was cleaning out my desk and found these mp3's on a zip disk

"free myself"

Nice vocals. Very nice vocals. The vocals are very, very nice.. in fact. Totally there performancewise. As far as mixing, they sound like there is a veil over them. Theres not much air and there is a fair amount of background noise and hiss which is what that veil is about. Did you record with a fan on in the background? Sounds live.

The width is there. The volume is there. No odd EQ issues. The guitar sounds a bit unveven in places but not horrible.

What mic did you use on her?

these were all recorded to a 4 track with 57's on everyone. the guitars were cheapo $100 Korean jobbers. The recording was a live take for arrangement purposes. It sounds like crap, I know. I don't even know what I did on mixdown. Probably nothing. I'm just throwin it up for the hellovit because I found it in my desk this afternoon.

thanks for the comments. Demetria does kick ass on the vocals. I remember she sang it with a cold.

"Free Myself"

JuSum... IIRC his site said "SM57 on everything"... 4-track'er

Ditto the comments on the vox. Is this the little wifey? :D Far be it from me to crit the guitars -- since my stuff won't sound any better :( -- but the rhythm seemed off on some of the strums. Of course $100 Korean guitars will give the odd fret buzz now and then :D

For a demo, very nice. Would like to see a fleshed out arrangement with some more dynamics. I imagine you still have access to this fine vocalist?

Matchka

Groovy... Natalie Merchant approach... gets a tad nasally, but very enjoyable JR. Sorry about the crits :( just trying not to give a meaningless thumbs up, because it deserves a real listen... but, here's the thumbs up anyway ;) Man, she can hold those notes! :)

Cool stuff...

EDIT: She sang with a cold? So, that's where the "nasally" comes in :)

Critique all ya want brah... if I was sensative about it, I wouldn't have put up a one take 4 tracker take and I'd stay in the shadows... like gollum... precious..... I actually like people to be critical than to candy coat and kiss ass.

It's not the wife. She does get nasally and it's something we talked about when it came to recording. She's pretty timid with the mic in a recording setting, but live... oh man... audience is captivated. Hell, I got captivated when we played live!

listened toMATCHKA:..maybe its my crap speakers but i love the bassssound on here...really full...cool.
vocals are a litlle muddled?.if that makes sense....but as i read these arent finished yet ..so no biggie..i would say uh..finish them?..lol..
your wife has a really good voice i thought..just need to hear more of it ..;)

nice work so far tho..
