i want a new soundcard... some questions

I can't think of one reason why you'd need to upgrade your video card after upgrading your soundcard.

Before purchasing a new soundcard, make sure your mobo will accept the new soundcard. Does it have an open pci slot? You'll need one if you go with the Audiophile.

Is your operating system compatable? Do you have sufficient memory? CPU fast enough?

Your pc doesn't suck. So far you're fine.

Do you know if you have an available PCI port? Do you know how much memory you have?

Was your computer store bought or custom built?

You have to open the case up and look at the motherboard you are looking for long empty slots.

Replace your old soundcard or motherboard?

It sounds to me like you can purchase the 2496 and another 256mb stick of RAM(make sure it matches your existing ram), plug them in and be on your way.

You'll need an audio editing program, too. Examples are Protools, Emagic Logic Audio, etc....

Yes replace your old soundcard, and also listen to what EZ_willis said.

The maximum memory your HP - Compaq Presario SR1011NX can support is 2048MB.

The number of total memory slots in your HP - Compaq Presario SR1011NX is 2 (2 banks of 1).

You can definately get the 2496, or any other PCI slot soundcard from m-audio or anyone else for that matter. How big is your hard drive? From what I saw that computer comes with a 40g. That will work for now, but you'll probably want to look into getting a second hard drive if you record a lot.

yea i want a second one, i got an external drive.

but i dont know if i should to replace my second drive cuz it says i have important files on it or sumthin

o is dat the only memory available for my pc? are there larger ones i can get?

If you go to add another memory card it'll have to be the same size as the one that's in there. Since you have a 256 then you have to add another 256. If you had a 512 you'd have to add another 512, and so on.

You can upgrade to the 512 if you want. But if you do that you have to pull out the 256 that's already in there. You can't mix different sizes. You could buy two 512's which would then give you a total of 1024mb of ram.

Here's the 512 you'd need:

thanx, thats what i might do, since i also run photoshop on this pc as well.
so if i switch both of them to 512 is anything gonna mess up? will i need to reinstall anything?

I have a 10k rpm 36g hard drive. I back my files up to a cd when I'm done tracking a song. Always plenty of room.

I also have 512mb of RAM, never have any trouble freezing up or anything else.
