but I'm on a budget. No more than $50. Including case. Has to play and sound like a Les Paul and look good on stage. I'll consider anything but I need really good quality. What should I buy? And where can I buy it? No international sellers please....

Ahhh......I remember my first beer.....

$50 ????? don't set your goals too high...Start out slow.

First find a good picture of the guitar that you want. Take the picture to Kinkos and have them blow it up to a life sized cardboard cutout. Next poke a hole in it large enough for the guitar cord. Make sure that the tip sticks out the back so you can touch it. By touching the tip you will short out the cord and this is what will produce the modern guitar tone. Add a few stomp boxes and a modeling amp and nobody will ever know the difference. I'm pretty sure that all of the Smashing Pumpkins songs were done this way. Most of the down tuned metal music was also recorded this way.

bwahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a great tip. Now I want learn to sing like the Cookie Monster for that death metel sound. Can you tell me which mic I need here or should I make a new thread? Oh, and who dresses me in the morning?

Oddly enough, I did buy a brand new acoustic at GC once, for 50 bucks. It was a Greg Bennett, all maple with beautiful inlay and inlaid binding, Grover tuners. It played and sounded great, one of the best playing acoustics I've ever laid my hands on. The only negative was that the grain in the maple top wasn't too pretty. I think it was some sort of mistake shipment, as they had about 30 of them, and they don't carry Greg Bennett. For some stupid reason, I ended up using it as a signature guitar for JamFest, so now I really can't play it without smearing the sigs. It's sitting in a box in storage. Shame.

Go to Ibanez's website and choose whatever takes your fancy. :)

The play and sound like a Les Paul I can't help you with. :)

Les Paul is dead, so pretty much any guitar will sound like him if you don't play it.

That's true, he didn't specify which Les Paul just that it had to play and sound like "A" Les Paul. But he also said that it had to look good on stage. I suppose if he plays in a metal band a corpse might look good on the stage...with the proper lighting of course.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Chili again.
Damn.
