I'm still getting started with recording stuff but already I can see the need for integrating computer tech. stuff with the Adat XT20 and Mackie 1604-vlz i already work off of. What I'm mostly interested in is getting more auidio tracks (as many as possible). I thought I'd set up a dream list here and see what advice ya' all might have.
I've been eyeing up cakewalk pro 9 and Cubase. I just (last night) down loaded Cubases demo program, so I still have no idea what it does or what I need to make it operate. I have a 3gig HD with 400mhz. I'm just looking at getting something small but professional yet affordable going. Am I going to need a new sound card? How do I get signal to the computer program (yes, I'm very new at this).
Dream list: 32 tracks for audio recording; built in effects; something able to integrate the Adat xt20 (and Mackie if necessary); affordable!; capable of recording multiple (like 8...am I being realistic?)tracks and playing back multiple tracks at one time. In short, something that would operate exactly like a 32 to 40 track recording studio, able to operate some midi stuff, on the computer with editing stuff, sounds good and affordable.
Will I need more HD memory and Ram at first or can I hold off a while? Please spare no details (including prices, or other intricacies). I really appreciate all the help you could spare. That YOU!

Hey C7sus,
Tahnks for the advice. I checked out the MOTU 2408 unit on the web and in a mag. Soundds like a nice peice, but I'm still a bit unclear with some of its features (I'm still leaning about all this recording stuff, especially with digital format). Does the MOTU2408 come with a program that is similar to Cubase, Cakewalk, etc. or is it just a rack piece that makes recording with multiple channels, Adats, midi components, etc. easier for and with the computer?
As far as RAM on my computer I have 64m and I'm noot certain what my HD rpm speed is, but it's begging to sound like I'll quickly need to upgrade my stuff.
Price range wise I was looking to stay under a grand for the entire ordeal at the moment (sound cards, software, etc.). I figure I can upgrade as I go along. Realistic?
Again, thanks a million for the response!
