Ya know, I get the feeling these card manufacturers are up to something..... all of the sudden some of the 24/96 low latency ASIO2 recording cards have dropped in price or been discontinued.

Makes me think some "new" technology is forthcoming......

What sound cards are you looking at that have been discontinued?

And which ones have incurred sudden price drops? I want to know!

Well, not that these were "the" top of line cards, but both the Echo Mia and the Terratec DMX 6fire LT have been, according to some web sites, discontinued.

Guitar Center had the Mia for $99.00 as of a couple weeks ago.

Both Guitar Center's in my area have sold out though and now only offer the Echo Mia Midi, but they want $200.00 for it.

I've seen the Terratec as high as $179.00 and as low as $99.00.

Pretty good prices for decent quality equipment.

It's just a feeling I have that something's brewing;)

Deemic,

I'm sure I've read something similar on HoRec or possibly Sound On Sound some months ago regarding new technology. I think it may relate to 64bit PC-buss technology, but I can't be certain.

Of course, it may just be the end-of-model run-out sales that we all know so well. :) Certainly the Echo Mia has been superseded by the MiaMIDI since they are both essentially the same card but with the addition of a MIDI port.

As for the DMX 6Fire, a quick view of Terratec's site reveals the Phase 28 Multi I/O Recording Interface 24bit/192kHz. So I guess 24/192 is the new flavour.

Whatever, it means bargains are to be had, and that is no bad thing.

The only reason the Mia is discontinued is because the M-Audio Audiophile was selling better. Hence the addition of a MIDI interface in the Mia MIDI to compete better with the Audiophile.

Simple product lifecycle managment - don't waste your time and read too much into it...
