I Think My Dog's A Democrat

It's as good as it is, for as long as it lasts.
This is a Bryan Lewis song that I learned a few years ago. It's a funny song and I enjoy playing it for friends and at party's, etc. Turns out, my dogs hate the song. They always bark, howl, or carry on when I play it. I don't know if there's some frequency that bothers them, or they actually listened to the lyrics.

Anyway, I have a friend that is deaf, and even with hearing aids he can barely hear anything. But, he can hear with his ear buds to watch YouTube. We always kid each other about the dogs being Democrats. So, about a week ago I thought I would record it on my phone and put it on YouTube. After a fair amount of Jim Beam, I pulled out my phone and hit record. About halfway through, the dogs had heard enough and started chiming in. It was all I could do not to laugh. It's pretty funny, and much to my surprise, I managed to get through it without screwing it up.

mixing clinic for multitrack "mixing advice/help" guy provides an iPhone recording! Not surprised you think this is a good song lol. I'd say try singing in pitch. redo vocals, maybe try close micing and/or eq the boxy room sound out but I think that's not gonna be able to happen!

Fun song with performance issues, recording issues, and mixing issues. I like the big sound you got on the guitar - that's a goodness. Looking at things to improve, I'm thinking that one of the first things to improve is mixing: vocal level and intelligibility. You need to make the quietest vocal bits more intelligible. Maybe the two easiest ways to do that is clip gain and parallel compression. Are you interested?

Ha, ha, I know about all the issues, I also didn't tune the guitar and the performance is not so good because I'm watching the dogs play fighting on the couch the whole time I'm playing.

It's a video recorded on a cell phone, and I did it for fun to send to a friend. I appreciate the advice and offers, but I'm not wasting time on this. One day I'll do a serious recording with real gear.

sourpuss responses! clearly recorded for a laugh and nothing more.

(also your dogs are right, let's unionize for a living wag and spend our tax dollars on our people, not bombs! only thing is, democrats don't support either of those ideas - I think your dogs are not politically represented by either party in the US today)

this was a typo but I'm leaving it in
The "living wag" was pretty funny.

And the dogs did vote, wouldn't tell me who for though.

In retrospect, I probably should have put this in the political comments thread, or Rob's most embarrassing performance thread. Such is life...

mp3 mixing clinic forum. If you want to post a song sung and performed poorly that is stereo recorded on an iPhone this is not the forum section for that. You post songs here to get mixing/critique on multitrack recordings. Nothing about being a sour puss it's about having a clue.

I don't have a problem with people commenting or critiquing. In fact, I hope everyone can get a good laugh out of it, I know I have! But in the interest of causing less heart burn in the future, I'm all ears, where should I have posted it?
