I suck don't I? :/

Well, the little "lead" part at the end was out of time because I had an effect on the master buss that caused delay. I quickly moved it back a little but I don't think it got moved correctly in time.

But my timing really isn't great. Click tracks are impossible for me to play to. MIDI drums are okay, I need some sort of feeling there or I have to "anticipate" the click and that messes me up. Different time signatures mess me up also.

I'm not too good of a rhythm player. My friend can turn a simple 3 chord progression into a good song, I can't. He can't play some of the technical stuff I can but I still consider him a better musician because his music sounds better.

That's really what I was referring to when I said I suck. Timing, lack of energy, etc. And I think those are the most important.

I use an Alesis SR-16. They can be found for well under $100. It takes about a minute to program in a shaker on the 1/16 or 1/8 notes and a stick count on the 1/4's. You can independantly adjust the volume of each drum so the shaker is less prominent than the sticks.

sounded fine here for what it is. you want feeling? play your own stuff. play freely, explore, find a vibe, but don't stop to think or criticize yourself.

thinking bad. :p

Keep on thinking you suck, it will make you play better. By the way, I definately didn't think it sucked at all.

I'd advise you to lock yourself in a room with no furniture or wall decorations, a few pots of black coffee and listen to the My War album by Black Flag over and over at high volume for about 36 hours.

All you need is a slight change of headspace and that'll do it.

Rhythm IS important, and my observation is that to some folks are born with a natural sense of it, others aren't but can struggle to develop one, and some never develop one at all. If you are in the latter category, then playing solo acoustic guitar is probably not the genre you should pursue, and IMO you should rethink your priorities and focus on what you can do.

Yes, I must agree.

If you are in the latter category you should take up DRUMS!!!!!:D

I haven't played guitar in awhile, or recorded anything. I just started learning the acoustic version of Hotel California. Anyway, I recorded this

The sound quality is very good.

As far as your comments on your own playing... you didn't rehearse this much and you're essentially saying it doesn't sound well enough rehearsed? I think you have your solution already.

Man, you've got a lot of potential. But you've got to work at it. Maybe that's one of the pitfalls of home recording. It distracts from working on the playing. All this needs is a bit more finesse.

Yeah, I haven't been playing it long but even on other songs I've been playing for awhile now (years) sound the same way. I can hear it in my mind just fine but when I go to pick up the guitar I seem to forget  and I have a hard time "feeling" the song while paying attention to what my hands are doing and thinking of mistakes.

I guess it's kind of like trying to sing and play at the same time. It's hard to just hear the song in my head while playing.

I have to admit, since I got my recording gear I've spent more time worrying about the 'sonic quality' more than the actual music. So that is another good point.

Listening to it now, just to say I did. Thing is, we are always our own worst critic. If we hit all the notes, we say our performance is flat. If we have energy, we say we played sloppy. Hell, Sunday I performed, and all went well- a friend took pics and when I saw them I said to myself, "Man, you look like crap." It's always something with ourselves.

No, you don't suck. No, you are not perfect. So what? Who is? Keep playing.

Yes he does. People that seek praise to boost their low self-esteem suck. Unless they have big tits, then they're okay.

I guess I suck too then. Would you sign the album and tour book for me that you and YOUR band put out? :D

There was a pause a little way in Hotel C. but it sounds damn good. I'm adding EVH dive bombs to it in my head though.:D
