I saw something truly sad today...

I went to the music store just to browse around, and a sign caught my eye. "Modified Gibson Les Paul Studio with ATA flight case on consignment - $400". I took a closer look, and somebody had modified the neck so it was skinnier. I asked the salesman what the hell happened to this guitar, and he kind of wistfully chuckled and said that some woman owned it and figured that since her hands were small, the neck should be small too. I tried it out, and it was like playing a broomstick. It would've been such a nice guitar if she'd left it how it was.

Still, though, the thought of this mutant guitar is haunting me. I may go back and try to play it some more, even though it's certainly not easy to play. Maybe if I got them to knock some off the price. That flight case would be pretty sweet.

Maybe you could replace the neck someday? That is a shame..

All that guitar needs is a little love......remember the tiny christmas tree in a charlie brown christmas?Yeah, thats what Im talking about......go back and give that freak neck guitar a little love.:D

Yeah, that's right! "I never thought it was such a bad little LP." But you gotta be holding a blanket before you say that.

I don't know...Les Pauls have set necks. Those would have to be a bitch to replace. I appreciate the Charlie Brown Christmas tree analogy, though...maybe I'll take it home and put some ornaments on it, and the neck will fatten out again. I am thinking about offering them $300...if they take anything somewhere near that, I'll go for it. It's a frickin' LP Studio.

Being a Fender man I totally forgot about that. Dang..

Bondo is auto body filler. We used it in the cabinet shop all the time. It works great, and it sticks to wood like you wouldn't believe! Just build that neck up with bondo, smooth it down real good and re-finish the neck.....presto, you got yerself a $400 LP.

I usaully play Fender Strats, but I just bought a Gibson Standard sunburst Les Paul. And the Les Paul has one of the nicest necks to play on. It is thin where you like it and thick where you like it.

Just thought I would put my 2 cents in.

You're shitting me. That's awesome. I'll go try and buy it on Saturday. Of course, I'll try to contain my enthusiasm while I'm making the deal.

"Can you fill in major gashes with Bondo?" -Yes

"Can it be painted?" - Yes.It is always painted over, when used on automobiles.

The "tone" of the instrument will change, but bondo will work.

Take care,
Tony

Don't waste your time and $$$.Bondo will work for filling dings and such, but trying to rebuild the neck probably won't work.As the neck expands and contracts the bondo is going to crack and fall off.

It's a moot point anyway. I went into the store today, and they said they made the woman take it back because it was never going to sell. That's for the best, I figure.

I hope she gives it the love it deserves.:( Kinda like the 3 legged dog you see at the pound when looking for a new pet......you hate to choose a "normal" 4 legged dog over him because he deserves a home just as much as the "normal" dog.:(
