I really need HELP!

What signal chain should I use?
I had this great idea to record my daughter’s Barbie Doll singing to a “really slammin” song I wrote, but I have had nothing but trouble.
I tried using my old faithful set-up of really-really good NoName ™ brand combo mic-pre-post but when I hit record all I get is this really quiet “room sound” kind of sound almost like there is nothing going on there. I tried turning up the gain really high but all I hear is headphone bleed. For some reason when I walk into the booth it starts working because I can hear myself, … very strange. Someone suggested Compression so I put her in the trash compactor and turned it on… didn’t work. Now all I get from her is pops and snaps. I wonder if my buffers are wrong? Someone else shouted C1!.. or C3!… well I had neither so I tried some C4 since I had some (and that would be 1 better anyway!).. Didn’t work! (Rats!) My mic pad wasn’t strong enough or something.
Well I must have screwed some thing up because now there is this incredibly loud ringing sound I can’t get rid of… and it is starting to make my head hurt.
I thought I would switch Buzz Lightyear for Barbie, but what self-respecting engineer would purposely introduce “Buzz” into his system?
Anyway… I really need some suggestions before tonight’s session!

THANKS A LOT!

PS: I did try to use the search box thingy. I kept pushing the button and looking in the box for an answer. I must have pushed it a hundred times. It kept asking me for information. I kept TELLING it if I KNEW the info I wouldn't be SEARCHING for it in the FIRST place! GEEEEEZ.
also... I'm really not tmix... I got a cracked version of his log on from some ware-iz site... don't worry... I'll get around to paying him for it some day.

Reminds me of the piece Mix years ago, with this engineer with his back against the wall on a deadline, using a 9mm on his DAT machines after the copy-protections wouldn't let them make their masters to send out.
Very inportant! Use your hearing protection AND don't forget safety glasses, for EVERYONE in the room!
Keep it safe:eek:

I heard on a radio show the other morning that if Barbie was life size her measurements would be 39"-23"-34".

But she'd be 7'-10" tall.

Use FMJ on your DAT machines. JHP makes such a mess when exiting out the back.

I pretty sure there's a substantial "buzz" in your system already.

You clearly did not use enough C4, nor enough compression. Remember the rule of pop records, squeeze it to death.

Remember, you only need one take, then you can just Autotune it.
