I Only hear an Echo when I play my guitar...

I bought the Cakewalk Music Creator 5, and it sounds great, but When I try to use my Mic or Guitar, it has about a half second delay. I have tried many things but so far nothing. I am still recording with my Roland 1180 CD, But I want to switch over to this when I get it right. Anybody had this problem and got it going? THanks for anything you can advise.

Yes, when I try and reduce it, it has a dissortion to it. I am thinking about getting another sound card. Someone said get one with Asio drivers in it. THey said you can reduce it without loosing the sound quality.
