Hey all

should i have the button on my art pro mpa pressed in (+4dbu) or out (-10dbv)

i am running xlr to trs jacks from the preamp to a firestudio project interface.

not sure what what the ideal setting should be...?

cheers

Hi Dave.
Investigate. There'll be user manuals available for both pieces of equipment.

If the firestudio line inputs are +4, set the preamp to +4. If they are -10, set the preamp to -10.

The setting is there to match the line level to the next piece in the chain.

In the same section is says
"THD+N (unwtd, 1 kHz @ +4 dBu Output, Unity Gain)
S/N Ratio (Unity Gain, unwtd, Ref. = +4 dBu, 20 Hz to 22 kHz)"

If they're taking measurements at +4 and the maximum input level is +10, I'd use your preamp at +4.

To be honest you'd probably know instinctively. It'll either be way to loud, way too quiet, or just right.
Go get 'em, Goldilocks. ;)

That spec doesnt tell you what you need to know, I just tells you how much signal you can feed it. But, I would assume from thay spec that you should be running at -10. I say this because if you send it a signal with a nominal level of 4m it only leaves you 6db of headroom. If the nominal level is -10, you end up with 16db of headroom, which seems more reasonable.
