i've posted this in a few other forums, but obviously no one wants to help...
it doesn't have to do with recording, just computers.
i'm looking to buy a laptop, preferably used so its cheap. i found a good deal on a powerbook g4 with a 550mhz processor, 1 gig of ram... would that be any good? all i need to do is use the internet basically, maybe a few other random things, but will 550mhz be ok? is that different than 550mhz on a pc?

any help would be appreciated.

If you're just using it for internet then it should be fine. Sorry to cut it short but if you aren't doing anything with music you won't find much help here.

As long as you don't wanna game which with a mac you really won't want to you should be totally fine there are people who still use that computer as a DAW so it should work great for you, now get lost.

do you get more than a 90 day warranty, or any for that matter? does it come with the operating system and an os cd so you can reload if you have a crash without having to buy another one?

you won't need more than 256 meg to effectivly surf the internet, and why do you want an apple?

if you are paying 500 or so, why not go to wal'mart and get a new avertec with warranty ( portable), really not bad and not much more.

apples are ok but a little more failure prone in my experience. IMO, YMMV

Not trying to be an asshole but this isn't the forum to ask about surfing the net. People aren't coming on asking about if their graphics cards will run BF2, people aren't asking which used car is worth the money, there isn't anyone modding xbox's. This site is about music, studios and everything related to music. I told him the computer would be ok for surfing, then you come back and ask "just ok?". Go to a computer forum where they answer all these questions and you'll get a lot more answers. Why do you think only two people responded because this isn't the place for this.
