River Of Praise

Joet,

Not a bad song, good production performance etc. I don't personally go in for christian music. The song was not particulary original or groundbreaking, I don't think you're going to get rich off this kind of music.

Listened to River Of Praise. Reminded me a bit of Orbison meets the Beatles.

Like the chord structure, Nice guitar playing, lead is nice.
Vocals are good too.

-glitch at 1:52, don't know whether it was my download, or your encoding. Same deal at 3:00, some weird glitch, like the drum machine dropped off.
-Can't hear the bass very well.
-Drum machine is too drum machine like. Kick is way out of balance with the bass. Bring the kick down, bass up.

Other than that, relaxing music. Lyrical content not my interest, but it's all cool.

Hey Joet

Not a bad tune! I do agree with Em that you need to bring the bass up front more. I would also put some more highs on the background vox and bring them up a tad (they sound kind of muddy), turn down the rhythm guitar a bit, and please, for heaven's sake, change the drum pattern every now and then and put in a fill or two. I liked the delay on the lead guitar.

Good effort!!

ps - this type of music CAN make you "rich", and probably already has. :)

Thx for the imput. I need some work with the drums and the overall mix. If you have something for me to listen to I will be happy to. I would really appreciate a listen to Shadow of Heaven . As you know feed back is very important

Thx again

Hmmmm....

Overall, my main critical statement would be that the recording is sort of "cold". Sounds sort of digital.....;)

Lead guitar - Out of tune. Far to upfront in the mix. I would be cutting back some 2-5kHz out of that sound.

Bass- is non existent. Really need to get a nice round bass in that song.

I don't like canned drums. I thought maybe the kick drum was a little too "stabby" for this production. Try a sound that has a bit more looseness to it.

I thought the main rythem acoustic sounded pretty decent. Natural for this kind of song. Good job!

Vocals - It sounds like they got recorded with a NT1 and at a low volume and you used some comp/limiting to make it sit in the mix. Sort of a low resolution sound to it. You have a nice voice, you just need to capture some more of the resonance that it has (yes, I can hear that it does have resonance....:) ). Reverb is the wrong kind. Sounds like a Room verb. You may want to play with a Plate, or maybe a large Hall with a shorter decay.

Your guitar playing is pretty decent.

Thx Ed (sounsman) for taking the time to listen and help. You did a lot to help me understand how to improve. I am thinking this was River of Praise not Shadow of Heaven. I know it is asking a lot but I would love the same type review of Shadow as I completed this about about three months after RIver Of Praise.
If I can help you please let me
Thx again
