Well, that's because I play 'em both
I play keyboard, and also violin (Don't compare me to DavidK here, he's way beyond my galaxy ) but at least I had completed my orchestra theory class back in about 1995. So I know how they work (instruments placement, parts, mix, etc...). This is realy important to do orchestra stuff with synth. Most keyboard player/MIDI programer plays "piano" when they record strings part. That's not realy the way to program strings. To do so, you need to understand and know what, why, where, etc. about the instruments used in orchestra. Sure DavidK was absolutely right. Nothing beats real player playing their violins. But for simple pad & backround layer, SONAR and synths work just fine
