i need more tracks

i want more tracks without pinging and ponging/what will i
need to move up to and stay with cassette tape/488/688
any reply will be helpfull/thanks/dan
oh yeh forgot to mention/i have tracked some real tasty treats on my porta3
 
Well, if you need more tracks, and you want to stay with cassette, then of course your only option is an 8-track cassette. On the other hand, you could just as well get a digital porta. Unless you have some reason to stay with cassette that I don't know of.
 
I agree with Reg - I don't understand why you'd want to stay in the cassette format as you upgrade.... your current 4-track track will NOT be compatible with an 8-track cassette format anyway, so why not go the digital route and get a WHOLE LOT better recording performance???

i kind of agree with you both but i don't have access to a
good computer at this time/i am assuming you need one to
go with digital recording/also/with my present setup now
i get some real good stuff on tape/even though my mixdown
equip sucks bigtime i have been putting up with it until
yesterday(2/11/01) when i listened to 1 of my tapes in a
friends new truck that has a top line system in it/we were
both blown away/my friend has a friend that records his
backup tracks using computers and makes a good living
playing gigs in bars 3/4 nites aweek/we sort of compared
both just listening and other than a small amount of hiss
my tapes sounded as good as his/i just do this for my own
pleasure with a few friends sitting in from time to time
and the thing i really want to do is be able to mic 3/4/5
instruments direct/

Bruce is right, you don't need a computer to go digital, a digital porta will work fine too. Which one you want ios a matter of taste, but I tend to like using hardware and not computers.

Oh, and that thing you got going with using slashes instead of dots? It's really coool, but makes things MUCH harder to read...

tanks,maybe i be stupid/is a 688 digital and analog sense
it uses a cassette/any other units that i might be looking
at for upgrade? this digital stuff is new to me/darn/i
would still be using 8 track in my car if someone hadn't
stole it/

i will try to do better. my wife is a teacher and she
usually corrects me on this type stuff. but i still play
the drumm machine better than she does. i just replyed
to blue bear as to some names or numbers of dig portas
i could start to research. any imfo from you will be a
big help.
