I feel like a stupid Idiot right now. I bought Pro tools MBox for my computer and when I went to install it the program said I only have 260080 kb and I need atleast 284 MB. What the hell do I do? Get a new computer? I dont know a hell of alot about computers, any help would be appreiciated.

buy some more internal memory(sims) and you're fine, unles you've got an old computer.

Remco

Internal memory

Where do I get internal memory (sims)? Do I need to be a genius to do this?
How much will it cost me for this memory upgrade?

Probably wont cost you much(compared to the cost of your M-Box)!What do you have for a computer?Start with brand and model!

My computer

I have an E machines model T2682 . It has windows XP and Intel celeron processor. I bought it about 1 year ago.

Many guys have that problem, and there are many solutions....

But seriously, $34!!!
Good deal...

RAM is very easy to install, even I can do it without screwing it up...

Ram card

Thanks for the info Beezelbubba! Is it possible to get more than 256 mb?
Is it easy to install? can I do this myself?

Yes.

Yes.

and Yes.

*edit* turn off your computer, and don't repeatedly rub your feet on the carpet (static) :D :D :D

Open up your case. See the big board, where all the ribbon cables from your hard drive/Cd-Dvd/floppy/what-have-you run to? That's the Motherboard, your RAM will be in (probably) two slots there, with white clips on either side of them.
Push the white clips towards the Motherboard (mobo) to release the card (if there's one in both slots, one may be vacant), gently push the new RAM in, and replace the white clips...

Beelzy will be able to correct any of my mistakes, my point being, if I can do it, you can!

Believe me,I'm no expert!RAM upgrade is pretty easy, though!
Also,to learn more about your computer, just go to google.com and type in
E machines T2682.

actually they are DIMMS. SIMMS are old technology. Also dont expect too much from celeron. It may get the job done for some tasks. Once you start using some vst's and plugings the performance will drop big time Believe me I work with PCs. An EMachine is a buget PC. Hey Im on a buget too. The Cheapest good PC right now would be a Dell.
Also before installing the ram tuch something metal to discharge any static. Although I've tried to distroy ram with static before I could not do it. I just wanted to see if it would fry.
Most PCs can take up to 2 gigs of ram even 4 gigs. You can buy it at Bestbuy, COMPUSA and most other places where PCs are sold. Beware of generic parts. I would recomend PNY Cheap, ULTRA a little more expensive, VIKING, yet more expensive. They have all worked good for me. If run into performance problems and want another computer I can recomend one for you.

When looking for RAM you need to know your FSB (Front Side Bus) speed also. Also if you have DDR or not. I would look at your owners manual (tech.Specs.) and see what type of RAM is compatible with your system. As for the Celeron the problem is the cache I believe (256mb) :S. GL, HF.

P.S.
Crucial and Kingston are others you can take a look at also. Crucial has a memory selector where you put your brand in and it helps you find the correct RAM. http://www.crucial.com/

Oh yea I forgot good ol Kingston. DDR 2100 i think is 266 FSB. Celron is not just small cache. Its been stripped of a lot of its fetures that make it run efficent. A processor is made up of different subprocessors that do different things. The celeron lacks this and has to do all the work. A P4 with Hyper Threading can multitask. It can devide the work into sections through out the processor allowing you run more applications at the same time. AMD can do this too.

Some Celeron's have only 128 cache. Other good brands of RAM that I have used (and bought at www.newegg.com) are Geil, Corsair, and Crucial.

Hmm thought I read (I only skimmed) somewhere that Celeron was tested and benchmarked for performance. End result being the cache :S. My bad :P.
Yeah, HT r0x gettin it soon!!! Newegg r0x as well.
